Smithtown Public Library, Long Island Room presents a lecture on the history of Fire Island.
A Pictorial History of Fire Island - a talk by Frank Turano will take place on Monday, Sept 21 7pm at the Smithtown Library (Main Bldg), 1 North Country Rd. Smithtown, New York 11787, (631)265-2072.
Join the library for an informative evening as Frank Turano, an environmental historian who has been researching Fire Island and its history and inhabitants, presents a pictorial view of the island in its boardinghouse era, the mid-19th century through the 1930's. Dr. Turano has many photographs to show and vignettes to share about happenings along the barrier beach communities that will delight and enlighten us all.
